FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I first heard of Avon Philippines‘ matte lipsticks I think way back in April but I got told that they will be releasing the line in September. As I have been falling in love with matte lipsticks for a while now, I immediately got all 6 shades of the Avon Ultra Color Matte Lipsticks as soon as they were out.
With a regular price of P379 (current brochure Sept. 16-30 price at P199 with free Ideal Oil Control Pressed Powder should you get two), the Avon Ultra Color Matte Lipstick shades are Matte Fuchsia, Matte Ruby, Matte Merlot, Matte Mandarin, Matte Coral, and Matte Red.
My initial thought when I saw the collection was that there was no nude shade available. Most were on the pink to red side with the deepest being Matte Merlot. Even though I was drawn to Matte Merlot at the start, my current favorites are Matte Ruby and Matte Fuchsia. I will post my review with FOTDs after I’ve tested them out more.
SWATCHES
I’m posting two set of swatches, one straight from the camera, one processed by Instagram. I’m still figuring out which of my devices give the truest true to color display but from my comparison of the actual and the ones on the screen, the straight from camera photo captures the one swipe swatches that I did. The Instagram one shows how they look like with a couple more passes.

Like what I posted on my Instagram, I feel that the Avon Ultra Color Matte Lipsticks are good matte lipsticks with a slight sheen and slip. They don’t tug on my lips and they deliver true to color. I wish they released a nude one though as I’ve been wanting a nude matte lipstick for the longest time.

Ooh. I wanna try out Merlot. Looks so nice! 🙂 If you want a nude matte lipstick that won’t break the bank, I suggest getting your hands on one of either Wet n Wild’s Megalast lipsticks or NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams.
Merlot has a really nice color but I find Matte Ruby and Matte Fuchsia easier to apply. I still haven’t given up on the color though and they are on constant rotation. 😀 Thanks for the tip on the nude matte lipsticks that are affordable! The holiday collections are coming in and luxury lipsticks plus palettes are my weakness. @_@
Are they available in SM? I haven’t gone to a NYX branch yet I think they have one in SM North or SM Megamall..
The colors look gorgeous! Is it just me, or does the matte red look a bit orange? Almost like MAC Lady Danger?
Hi Liya! Yup Matte Red looks like Lady Danger! i have them both and they look almost the same. I say almost because I want to swatch them first side by side to really compare 😀
I have Matte Ruby and I love it! It’s my first time to use a matte lipstick and it wasn’t as drying as I thought it would be. Very pigmented too. 🙂
Hi Nathalie! Matte lipsticks are really great and i find most of what i have tried not so drying. I also thought they were drying before but now i love wearing them!

Anyway, you’re right, there doesn’t seem to be enough variety, none of the following: MLBB-ish shade, medium non-bright pink and coral, nude, and plum.
I still might try this (fuchsia and merlot) despite my apprehensions (maybe after I finish flat out fabulous and at least one of the reds I have).

I know.. It’s so hard to find a gude nude. Ooops. GOOD nude. haha. My current (and probably only but still not quite) nude is Laura Mercier’s Peche.
Those colours are so pretty! I live in the UK, we have a nude one, (we also have fuchsia, ruby, grape, peach, blossom and mauve.) I’d much rather we have some brighter colours, though mandarin doesn’t look as properly orangey as I’d like it to be. I love orange lipsticks but they’re quite hard to find in the UK. But I think fuchsia is gorgeous and I need back-ups. 🙂
I just got Matte Coral today. I was glad I only ordered one muna, It’s not as matte as I had expected. Sayang
