Six days… a very short run for a seemingly infinite amount of books. The return of the #NBSGreatWarehouseSale had been met with overwhelming response, so much so, that their original checkout plans had to be modified to service more customers in an even faster cycle.
Today (15th of August) marks the third day of this event and we’re still thinking of going! The scene above is what most people will be looking at upon entering the 4th floor. Often you’d hear disheartened sentiments that lead to some people opting out of the sale due to the sheer length of the checkout line – about 1.5 hours worth give or take.
If you come in early, some form of foot traffic regulation is being implemented thru a line that begins from the NBS at the second floor.
This pseudo-control allows for the participants some time to get their bearings and maybe grab a basket or a box that will be their best friend when clocking over 10 books… and that comes easy because of the price range of most everything inside of the warehouse – around Php30 to Php1000 sometimes depending on quality.
Some goers opt to fill their textbook fix (and there’s plenty mind you local and foreign alike), while an even greater number hunts for YA titles, some even going so far as to open boxes that are still under wraps.
An important marker to keep a lookout for is the “end of line” signage that moves as more individuals/groups finish their shopping run. If there isn’t one, just follow the long queue to its end.
Once the line reaches direct visibility of the “Cashier” sign, that means it’s almost home-free already!
Within our two-day attendance, we’ve managed to let go of Php2000 in a variety of items, more than half of which are books naturally. We’re participating in it more for the off-chance of finding something unique and special, a gem if you may, hidden among the pile of books that never seem to run out even though plenty check-out with boxes filled to the brim and you see some going down the escalators when you’re just about to enter the proverbial wilderness that is the NBS Great Warehouse Sale.
This event runs until the 18th of August (Tuesday). And don’t worry if you’re coming in on one of those later dates.. new boxes are opened periodically… who knows what treasures lie in those!
